Rubber Duck Races

Already for some while are very popular the rubber duck races in which thousands of rubber ducks are thrown usually into a river, while the rubber duck which floats to the finnish line first is the winner. The rubber duck races which are usually organized by charity or environmental organizations are very similar to poohstics in which each participant throws a stick on the upstream side of the bridge, while whose stick appears on the other side of the bridge first is the winner.

In the rubber duck races can participate anyone who donates (usually few dollars) to “adopt” a duck which is numbered, while donator receives a numbered ticket which matches with his/her duck. The rewards for first places are usually very attractive, depending from race to race, while all the profit from “adopted” ducks goes to certain charity or environmental organization.

There are hundreds of rubber duck races organized throughout the world every year, while in the most famous rubber duck races such as the Rubber Duck Regatte in Cincinnati (Ohio, USA), Great Knoxville Rubber Duck Race in Tennessee (USA), Great British Duck Race in London (England), Great Australia Day Duck Race in Melbourne (Australia) and many others, hundreds of thousands rubber ducks are used and a lot of money is raised for charity or environmental organizations.

Locations of rubber duck races are very careful chosen, while the organizers also take all necessary measures concerning environmental issues. All rubber ducks which race floating down the waterway are fished out of the water after the race is finished.
